Application of advanced statistical tools, decision theory, artificial intelligence, modeling and simulation techniques in medical decision support systems. Introduction to knowledge based and learning systems. Validation and evaluation methods for medical decision support systems.

Course objectives

The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the concepts of medical decision support systems, as well as to provide theoretical and practical knowledge on methods and tools used for developing medical decision support systems. The course has both theoretical and practical aspects. The students have the opportunity to learn how to implement the theoretical notions to which they are introduced, and many examples with the use of specialized software tools, such as WEKA.

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Have a proven knowledge and understanding of issues in the scientific field of medical decision support systems.
  • Know and have a critical view of recent, state-of-the-art developments in the field of medical decision support systems.
  • Combine their knowledge to develop methodologies that ensure the successful resolution of new, complex, study-level and real-world problems.
