Statistical Quality Control: The concept of quality and its dimensions, Components of statistical quality control, The 7 main tools of statistical process control, Description and use of a control chart, Construction of a standard Shewhart type control chart, Control Charts – terminology and principles, Types of control charts, Control charts for variables, Control charts for attributes, Process capability analysis, Memory-type control charts (CUSUM, EWMA), Acceptance sampling
Reliability of Systems: The theory of Reliability, Reliability of systems in constant time, Structure of systems, Reliability of systems of independent components (in series & parallel arrangement, etc), Reliability of components – systems in time. The concept of failure, failure rate, lifetime distributions, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) & Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) of a unit or system, the concept of maintainability of a unit or system, and failure study. The main lifetime distributions, Unit – system properties based on various types of aging.
During the lessons, exemplary exercises will be solved for a better understanding of the course material. Also, the use of statistical packages to deal with practical data analysis problems will be demonstrated.
The purpose of the course is twofold: to bring students into contact with statistical methods for monitoring production processes in order to improve the quality of the produced products on the one hand and with methods of solving problems related to the calculation, estimation, optimization of the probability of operation or expected life or more generally the distribution of the lifetime of a unit or system of units.
After successful completion of the course, students will be able to
compare evidence and read relevant literature with critical thinking
